THEThe Carabinieri Command of the Investigative Unit of the Environmental, Agri-Food and Forestry Police of Catania has arrested two men for “aggravated theft”. In this regard, in the morning, the soldiers of the Carabinieri, engaged in an activity aimed at combating the spillage of all types of waste, while passing through the area adjacent to the Oriented Nature Reserve, surprised two men “at work” on a pole of electric current. From the reconstruction of the facts it emerged that the two subjects, after entering a piece of land close to the embankment of the Simeto river in Catania, a few meters from the perimeter of the aforementioned reserve, knocked down the disused iron pylon, first used for the passage of the electricity network, to section it, into small parts, using a flex. The pylon, in fact, had been knocked down through cuts at the base of the support poles fixed to the ground. The two men from Catania, aged 35 and 41, both already known to the police due to previous judicial affairs, were, in fact, caught red-handed while with various equipment, including a cutting grinder, powered by a portable power generator , they were tearing the entire ferrous structure to pieces. Having blocked and secured the two criminals, the investigators inspected the entire surrounding area to search for a possible means of transport and in fact, purposely hidden among the vegetation, they found a Fiat Doblò with further tools inside for cutting the iron. The recovered ferrous material would have been destined for the illicit market, i.e. to complacent companies who would have purchased it and then melted it, thus losing track of its furtive origin. The estimated value is over €1,000. The Carabinieri then arrested both men and made them available to the Judicial Authority which validated the measurement and the seizure of the equipment.
