For the murder of Giuseppe Tirone the charge was reformulated. The well-known criminal, Massimo Passariello, is now accused of voluntary homicide. Therefore, the position of the 36-year-old from Cervinara, confined in the Bellizzi Irpino prison since December 2023, has worsened, accused of the murder of Giuseppe Tirone, the 51-year-old transformed into a human torch by his neighbor. This was established by the public prosecutor Cecilia Annecchini. Passariello – in light of the prosecutor’s decisions – will be subjected to interrogation on May 9th, flanked by his lawyers Vittorio Fucci and Domenico Cioffi.
Giuseppe Tirone died at the end of December 2023, after ten days of agony in the Major Burns department of the Cardarelli in Naples. His condition immediately appeared very serious, when the police officers arrived in Via Currielli together with the 118 health workers, alerted by the victim himself. Tirone had serious burns on his face, neck and chest and told the investigators who arrived on site that he had been doused with flammable liquid and that to reduce him in that way he had been Massimo Passariello. According to what the victim himself said, Passariello first emptied the bottle of alcohol on him and then set him on fire with a lighter, finally leaving to go to work. To further complicate the man’s clinical picture, the poor functioning of the lungs.
Precarious health conditions that could not withstand one Respiratory crisis and the 51-year-old died at the end of December from burns suffered at the height of the argument with the 36-year-old from Cervinara. At the basis of the argument which resulted in the lethal attack, the repeated explosion of small firecrackers by Giuseppe Tirone which triggered Passariello’s violent and reckless reaction. Now the charge has been changed to voluntary manslaughter. The victim before being transferred with an 118 ambulance to the hospital “San Pio” of Benevento, reported to the investigators the chilling details of the attack he suffered, pointing the finger at Passariello. But in light of the complex clinical picture and the extent of the burns, the 51-year-old was immediately transferred to the “Cardarelli” Neapolitan hospital, in the department Major burn victims.
The 36-year-old, however, was arrested red-handed by police officers at his workplace, a carpentry shop run by him and his father in the center of Irpinia. During the validation hearing, before the investigating judge Paolo Cassano, the 36-year-old convicted felon availed himself of the right not to answer. The investigating judge, recognizing that the arrest had taken place a few hours after the events, did not validate the arrest, but due to the seriousness of the indications of guilt he issued a custodial measure in prison.
