Bari Flying Squad agents arrested four alleged exponents of the Capriati clan on charges of complicity in detention with the aim of dealing a large quantity of narcotic substances and complicity in illegal possession and carrying of a firearm. It’s about Giuseppe Capriati, aged 27, son of Domenico (known as Mimmo), killed in 2018 at the age of 49 in an ambush in via Archimede; Onofrio Lorusso, 28 years old, brother-in-law of Raffaele Lello Capriati, murdered in Torre a Mare on Easter Monday evening, of Vito Lucarelli, 21 years old, and Michele Schiavone, 20. The four were notified of a precautionary custody order in prison issued by investigating judge of Bari Rosa Caramia at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office. Domenico and Lello Capriati are the sons of Sabino, brother of the clan leader Antonio.
The “renewed belligerence between mafia families” in Bari
The investigation originates from the seizure of a large quantity of narcotic substances and a gun, which took place in Piazzetta dei Marinai, in the ancient village of Bari, on 29 September 2023. 475 grams of cocaine, 716 grams of hashish and approximately 3 kg of marijuana, as well as a Smith & Wesson 357 magnum caliber revolver pistol and six bullets in the cylinder. The investigations carried out allowed us to identify, on some of the seized artefacts, four fragments of fingerprints attributable to the suspects. The location of the discovery is believed to be a hideout of the Capriati clan which, in recent weeks, has once again risen to the forefront of the city’s news – he explains a note from the Police Headquarters – as their leaders and associates were involved in one renewed belligerence between the mafia families of Bariwhich resulted in some episodes of violence and finally in the fatal ambush against a leading exponent of the mafia association (Lello Capriati, ed.), committed on the evening of last April 1st”.
