BARI – Giacomo Olivieri he returned to Bari to speak with the DDA magistrates who requested and obtained his arrest in prison on 26 February as part of the Internal Code investigation into political relations with the clans. This is why the 62-year-old lawyer, former regional councilor, on the afternoon of Monday 6 May subjected himself to questions from prosecutors Fabio Buquicchio and Marco D’Agostino and from prosecutor Roberto Rossi for two hours. Assisted by his lawyers, Gaetano and Luca Castellaneta, Olivieri told his “his” truth.
The interrogation focused on the two charges charged against Olivieri, namely criminal association aimed at political-mafia electoral exchange and extortion against the Banca Popolare di Bari. Two charges on which, in the guarantee interrogation, the The 62-year-old lawyer intended to make use of the right not to respond: “I will read the documents and give all the answers”, he said, limiting himself to stating that there had been no extortion against the bank.
This time Olivieri instead answered the questions, trying to explain the relationships with the Bari clans that were contested against him and which – according to the accusation – he would have exploited to buy the votes necessary to have his wife elected to the Bari City Council in 2019. The former political exponent, husband of Maria Carmen Lorusso (former municipal councilor, who also ended up under house arrest) has been in prison in Lanciano in a high security cell since March: he has already returned to Abruzzo. The Review Court said “no” to the return to freedom of both Mari Lorusso and her father Vito, the former IRCCS oncologist also accused of having bought votes in favor of her daughter. For the moment, Olivieri’s defense has not made any requests.
