The Varese Financial Police conducted a targeted operation which led to the issuing of fines of up to 9 thousand euros against 17 public businesses located in various locations, including Caronno Pertusella, Cremenaga, Cunardo, Ferrera di Varese, Luino , Maccagno, Marchirolo and Olgiate Olona.
The violations ascertained concern the use of slot machines outside the hours established by municipal ordinances to combat gambling addiction. These times have been identified precisely to limit access to gambling during certain moments of the day, in particular the times of entry and exit from work and school.
The discovery of the infringements was made possible thanks to the use of a software called “Scaams”, used by the Economic-Financial Police. This tool made it possible to identify the activation of slot machines outside the permitted hours, allowing the authorities to intervene promptly and sanction non-compliant operators. The fines imposed vary from 100 to 9,294 euros, depending on the severity of the infringement.
The action of the Varese Financial Police is part of a broader context of combating gambling addiction and protecting citizens, in particular the most vulnerable segments of the population. The ordinances issued by the Mayors and the regulations adopted by the Municipal Councils, which require compliance with protected time slots, are crucial tools for preventing and combating the phenomenon of pathological gambling.
It is significant to note that many of the managers verbalized during the operation turned out to be Chinese nationals, highlighting the diversified origins of the actors involved in this sector.

However, the timely notification of the violations favored the immediate payment of fines by the managers, contributing to the collection of resources that can be used for new projects and initiatives aimed at preventing and combating gambling addiction.
In addition to the economic dimension, it is important to underline the social and citizen protection aspect that underlies these actions. The Economic-Financial Police aims not only to combat illegal gambling, but also to protect players from unsafe gambling proposals and to prevent the involvement of minors in gambling activities. Furthermore, it is actively involved in combating infiltration attempts by organized crime in the public gaming sector.

In conclusion, the operation conducted by the Varese Financial Police represents an important step forward in the fight against gambling addiction and in guaranteeing a safe and regulated gaming environment. However, it is necessary to continue vigilance and take preventive measures to effectively combat this phenomenon which can have serious consequences on the health and well-being of society.
