Insects in food served to school children and mold in bread. The financiers of the Provincial Command of Vicenza, with the support of the officials of the Food Hygiene and Nutrition Service of Ulss 8 Berica, carried out a check on food safety and unpaid work for a social cooperative operating in the sector of catering for events and supplier of ready meals to private individuals and school canteens. The activity arose following the information collected by the Fiamme Gialle who, for some time, have been monitoring school canteens and the quality of the services and meals provided. On this occasion, from the first investigations conducted, it emerged the presence of insects in some dishes served to children at a secondary school, as well as mold in portions of bread for celiac students.
The financiers, together with Sian officials, carried out a check at the cooperative’s Monticello Conte Otto cooking center, in order to verify compliance with health and hygiene requirements and ascertain the position of the workers present. The inspection revealed violations of hygienic-sanitary compliance regarding, among other things, the maintenance and cleaning of household appliances in use, labeling and the correct method of storing food. Furthermore, the Fiamme Gialle found 2 completely illegal workers in the kitchens on whom further inspections are underway, also to verify the existence of the requirements for actual employment in food preparation activities.
In light of the health and hygiene irregularities detected, the ULSS 8 Berica Company immediately issued a suspension and immediate ban on the continuation of the activity, effective until the violations found are resolved and the required interventions are carried out. At the same time, the Vicenza financiers contested, in relation to the employment of illegal workers, administrative sanctions amounting to around 4 thousand euros, making a specific proposal to suspend the activity to the competent Territorial Labor Inspectorate of Vicenza.
