NEW YORK (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – “I am here at the UN to testify once again how much Italy has faith in the United Nations, and also in its action. The more the crises, difficulties, conflicts and contrasts grow in the world, the more it becomes clear how indispensable the action of the United Nations is”. The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella said this while meeting the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the Glass Palace.
For Mattarella “we need to be able to interrupt the spirals of violence everywhere, the spiral of action and reaction that makes the problems worse”.
Guterres reiterated that “Italy is a fundamental pillar of multilateralism and an exemplary partner of the United Nations. In all areas of our activities, Italy is always present: in peacekeeping operations, in sustainable development, in climate action, for human rights and the rule of law”.
For the UN secretary general, “Italy has a rich history and is a northern country that understands the south. It has always been a bridge between north and south. A bridge now more necessary than ever when we live in such a divided world, with geopolitical divisions that are creating so many difficulties in all areas of human activity, from climate to artificial intelligence to peace and security.” For Guterres it is very important “that Italy is at the helm of the G7 and that it is able to lead the reform of our multinational institutions which were created after the Second World War and which no longer represent the reality of today’s world”.
