“Agriworld Talk represented a further inclusive showcase to discover some important protagonists of rural Basilicata. The narration of stories and corporate projects of resilience, research and innovation, today increasingly attractive in order to relaunch and consolidate connections between companies, territories, supply chains and institutions, has created an opportunity for inclusive dialogue between public actors and private individuals in the agri-food chain of Basilicata, who confirm how important synergies and collaborations can confirm Basilicata as a land of fundamental primary resources” declares Piergiorgio Quarto Regional Coordinator of Fratelli d’Italia in Basilicata.

“Lucanian agriculture, tourism, Lucanian agrifood have enormous potential, which must necessarily be increasingly valorised in a local context, as well as on a global level. Today, essential ideas and reflections are outlined to take a new direction in the logics linked to business but also to sustainability at the basis of successful entrepreneurial stories, full of vision but also of love for the territory in which one inhabits. The awards given to companies in our area that have stood out for their practices of innovation, sustainability, circular economy, marketing – continues Quarto – reward those entrepreneurs who have made their companies more modern, competitive, and have improved the quality of employment protecting those who work there and enhancing their production.

Added value is certainly represented by rural tourism, which promotes, enhances and supports rural communities, through the creation of tourist experiences, cultural, sporting and recreational activities, which contribute to the economic development of the territory, preserving the richness and beauty of the heritage local environment.

The involvement of local communities in the economic development of the territory summarizes a large part of the concept of “rural tourism” which should not be minimized and limited to the sole idea of agritourism, ecotourism, green tourism, forestry tourism or sustainable tourism, but rather should be expanded to the use of areas rural and natural for recreational use, in sustainable forms with low environmental impact and aimed at the development of the territory, even beyond the presence of agricultural businesses.

The duty of the institutions in a Region like ours is to raise interest and create awareness on the issues of environmental-cultural respect and sustainability, to support the creation of opportunities for active participation by rural communities, in the interest of valorising the environmental heritage /cultural of the territory, develop the territory through tourist activities: recreational, social, cultural, sporting, artistic and sustainable, promote the recovery and valorisation of rural spaces, as opposed to urban development and encourage the economic development of the territory and the livelihood of the communities that live it.

In our country there are over 20,000 agritourisms and agricultural companies, accommodation facilities that host travelers interested in fully enjoying Italy’s natural beauty, also through unique experiences of enjoying the territory. Each Italian region has specific geo-cultural characteristics and areas still to be explored, our land is rich in agricultural areas, organic districts, virtuous villages and natural reserves in which the environment, agriculture and tourism can synergistically contribute to the development of the entire territory, making it increasingly attractive and sought after, as well as useful and functional to the needs of the communities that inhabit it”.
