Siena celebrates the “most beautiful of the fine arts”: in the desire to promote the cultural and scientific value of the nursing profession, OPI Siena also celebrates the International Nurses Day which, every year, on May 12th ideally unites 13 million nurses working all over the world. A date chosen to remember Florence Nightingale (born on 12 May 1820), founder of modern nursing sciences, still a point of reference for those who carry out this profession today.

In line with the theme “Let’s nourish health”, chosen by FNOPI (National Federation of Nursing Professions) for the 2024 edition, OPI Siena is organizing a double appointment to stimulate reflection on the role of the nurse and on nursing issues.

The first, scheduled Saturday 11 May, will be reserved for members and will offer an important training session on the theme “Lightness in the most beautiful art… or rather, the most beautiful of the fine arts”. The course, which will take place from 8.30 am to 1.00 pm, will take place at the Palazzo Patrizi headquarters (via di Città, 75 – Siena).

As is now a pleasant custom, there will also be a event dedicated to citizens: Sunday 12 May in fact the Sienese nurses will “take to the streets” by setting up a gazebo in the corner between the Corso and via Madonna delle Nevi where practical demonstrations will be offered with adult and pediatric BLS stations.

“On a very important day for us – comments the president of the Siena Order of Nurses, Michele Aurigi – we wanted to bring attention to the profession we carry out. Within the theme launched by FNOPI “Let’s nourish health”, Opi Siena wanted to underline how taking care of others is an art, “the most beautiful of the fine arts”. A way to bring attention back to the centrality of our role; nurses are trained professionals and bearers of high ethical values, an indispensable point of reference at the service of citizens and their health. And it is with this spirit that today, as in recent years, we try to meet citizens but also institutions: listening to the voice of nurses is important because those who take care of others need the best conditions to do it well”.

“On this day – concludes the president Aurigi – it is my duty to extend sincere thanks to all my colleagues who, on a daily basis and despite a thousand difficulties, make their dedication and expertise available to others, committing themselves to guaranteeing assistance, protection and promotion of health”.
