Bs Nord: «Our trap was born in the (beautiful) suburbs»

There are those who don’t give up on the idea that doing trap must inevitably lead into the trap of stereotyped prose. And he does so by stating that «the Italian language offers an infinite number of solutions for say things creatively».

They are the boys – all twenty-four years old – of Bs Nord triowho released their first album on March 21st, entitled «Simonia» and completely self-produced.

The homage to the city from Civil upwards

The name of the project is a tribute to the northern area of the city (from Civil upwards, including the hinterland), which is their home. And two of their nicknames are in tranquility, a slang born decades ago in Brescia Nord (and nowhere else). Rocco Nicolai, from Collebeato, aka Corro Beverly. Guido Viscardi, aka Kazama, lives in Concesio. «Cosse» (because as a child he was very thin and dry) is born Leonardo Ventura, and he lives in the city. Simony is there buying and selling of ecclesiastical offices. In the “Divine Comedy” Dante placed the simoniacs among the damned in the third pit of the eighth circle of the underworld.

Religious architecture

«It’s our metaphor to talk about a present – reasons Corro – in which many people think they can buy anything». Bs Nord have one fascination for religious architecture and they possess – from the sounds complete with church organs to the imagery, passing through the aesthetics – a gothic attitude. «We come from old style rap – continues Beverly -. Truce Clan and Club Dogo influenced us. Then, of course, came the 2016 trap wave. Some people today compare us to the Dark Polo Gang.”

Trap yes, but…

Bs Nord recorded «Simonia», produced by Mattia «Goon» Bressana, from Barbariga, at the Macina Sonora in Montichiari. Beyond the sometimes “gut-punching” lyrics – typical of the genre – they have inventiveness and freshness. On their side there is also an impactful image, particularly well taken care of by a large team. Giovanni Zanotto is the artistic director of the entire project, Filippo Andronaco and Alessio Mariano are the videomakers who followed them. «Trap, yes, but in our way – continues Corro -. Many artists in our scene see the suburbs as a condemnation. Brescia Nord may seem simple and bare, but we love her. You find all kinds of people, and in four steps you are on the hill. We would like to leave our city and meet a large audience, but the goal would always be to return here as winners. Make ours success is in everyone’s name, and perhaps also an incentive for many to give their best.” On Saturday 29 June they will perform live at the Collebeato Sports Center, as part of a party with charitable purposes.
