Arpa Puglia certifies the quality of bathing water

All the sampling points in the province of Foggia for the analysis of bathing water carried out by Arpa Puglia were found to be of “excellent” quality, except in one case.

Only the points of San Nicandro Garganico, at the mouth of the Lauro river 30 meters to the left and right, are of “sufficient” quality.

Like every year, before the start of the bathing season, Arpa Puglia communicates to the Council for approval the results of the sampling at the points foreseen for the analysis of bathing water along all the Apulian coasts, excluding the areas permanently closed to bathing due to the presence of discharges, industrial plants or ports.

The analyzes concern bacteriological and chemical pollution.

There are no bathing spots (points in the marine-coastal areas where the greatest influx of bathers is expected, which generally remain the same over the years, to detect the evolution of water quality over time), with water of “insufficient” quality along the 940 km of coastline and hundreds of sampling points.

Only in a very few (five) points on the beaches is the quality found below excellence, but still above the limits for bathing.

In detail, in the rest of the region, all the sampling points are of “excellent” quality in the Bat as in Brindisi and Lecce; in Bari, all the sampling points are of “excellent” quality, except the Molfetta point 500 meters south of the city sewer, of “good” quality; in Taranto, all the sampling points are of “excellent” quality, except that of the free beach of Ginosa Marina – river area, of “good” quality.

Already last year, the mayor of San Nicandro Garganico, Matteo Vocale, faced with the same data, had specified that the quality of the water in Torre Mileto was classified as excellent. The sampling point that was found to be “sufficient”, in fact, corresponds to the mouth of the river that flows into Lake Lesina. No problems, however, from Schiapparo to Calarossa.
