A community center in the former Horseshoe park – Pescara

PESCARA. A youth aggregation center, with many initiatives for children, seven days a week, in the children’s park in via Tavo, which was vandalized and set on fire, opposite the area where the Ferro di Cavallo stood. This morning the Municipality of Pescara handed over the keys to the ‘Proximity to institutions’ association, leader of a partnership of 16 entities that will take care of the “Talent garden” project. The partnership will take care of the green area and the attached structure (for 42 months). The activities will start in the next few weeks.

Representatives of the Municipality participated in the handing over of the keys, with the mayor Carlo Masci and the deputy mayor and councilor for social policies Adelchi Sulpizio, the manager Marco Molisani and the president of the social policies commission Maria Luigia Montopolino. For ‘Proximity to institutions’ there were Domenico Trozzi, founder and honorary president of the non-profit organization, Nello Bardaro, Marianna Di Renzo, and Christian Ricciardi. Also present were representatives of the partnership and some students who immediately inaugurated the football field.

“In this neighborhood, which is a difficult neighborhood, we give answers and, with these answers, we counteract a widespread nihilism. Something has already changed in this part of the city, with the demolition of the Horseshoe, which was the underworld’s fort , and now instead in this beautiful park the fortress of legality is born and this is a great satisfaction”, said Masci. “Here 300 children aged 10 to 17 – said Sulpizio – will carry out many activities for 42 months: we could not be satisfied with demolishing the Horseshoe, we also had to think about important initiatives from a social point of view, and we did so in this structure, which was vandalized but also renovated”.

Ricciardi, head of Talent garden, recalled that “the project was financed by the social enterprise ‘Con i bambini’ (for an amount of 600 thousand euros) as part of a 2022 tender to create a youth aggregation center for children aged 10 to 17 from the suburbs. The park is resurrected – he concluded – and with Talent garden we are approaching 42 months of daily activities, seven days a week, even on Saturdays and Sundays: the children will find educators and instructors here. and they will carry out sporting, cultural and recreational activities”, he concluded.
