A timely signal made it possible to raise the alarm in time, allowing the rescue of three people on board a motor boat that was rapidly sinking off the coast of Fiumicino, on Sunday 5 May 2024. The accident occurred approximately 3 miles from the coast.
The emergency signal was sent by an industrial IP platform which noticed the critical condition the boat was in. So from the terminal, while we were witnessing the rapid sinking of the motor vessel with the three occupants already in the water, calls were made to the harbor master’s office.
While waiting for the arrival of official help, another passing boat promptly provided assistance, recovering and transporting the three people involved to land. The three occupants were then taken to hospital as a precaution, but they are all in good condition.
The hull, however, remained half sunk with the bow exposed. The coast guard investigation that subsequently took place will allow the causes of the accident to be ascertained, fortunately without any consequences for the occupants of the boat.
The owner took care of the recovery of the hull at its own expense.
