Vittoria, the “Scenica” arts festival presented

Countdown for the start of the 16th edition of “Scenica Festival”, the event that transforms the city of Vittoria into an “en plein air theatre”. Presented this morning at a press conference, the festival of many arts will be inaugurated this Friday 10 May and will end on Sunday 26 May, animating streets and squares, theaters and gardens, for three weekends. Places that will be crossed by a magnetic energy released by the many artists who will capture audiences of all ages with their performances, to transport them once again into an extraordinary and surprising imagination. Contemporary circus, music, dance, theatre, literary presentations, laboratories, workshops, photography: everything is ready to experience this new and joyful edition organized by the Santa Briganti Cultural Association, with the artistic direction of Andrea Burrafato, with the patronage of the Municipality of Vittoria, of the Sicily Region and with the support of the Ministry of Culture. With an international outlook and ties with its homeland, this year Scenica has further strengthened its ties with the territory.

“After the reopening of the Colonna Theater – said the councilor for Cultural Activities Paolo Monello – Vittoria is ready to welcome and experience Scenica Festival, a very important cultural event in our city which will enhance the entire historic centre. There is already a particular atmosphere, especially among young people.” The artistic director Andrea Burrafato underlined how Scenica Festival is a point of reference for the arts and entertainment, with important presences, a multidisciplinary festival with proposals for everyone, families, children and adults. “This year the program is really full-bodied – added Burrafato – 33 international companies for more than 60 shows including 7 national premieres and 6 regional exclusives. We are also particularly happy for the very dense network of collaboration with the provincial territory, there are numerous entities that operate in the social, environmental, tourist and cultural promotion fields and which actively participate in Scenica.

In support of the event there are also various agreements with venues that technically support the festival. This year too, great attention is paid to social inclusion, as also underlined by the municipal councilor for public education, legality and transparency Francesca Corbino: “We are proud that this festival has reached an international caliber. As councilor for public education I feel particularly happy because this festival brings young people closer to the city through the arts, music and entertainment. For the second consecutive year, “Raccordi” returns, an important section of this exhibition that brings together the different communities present in the city, which include more than 10 ethnic groups: a process of integration and inclusion that connects the different cultures in the city and moment of exchange and knowledge. Santa Briganti is an important reality for our city, also for inclusion activities”. There are three appointments that are part of the “Raccordi” project and are carried out in collaboration with the Sai (Integration Reception System) projects for ordinary adults, Dm/Ds and unaccompanied foreign minors, managed by the Municipality of Vittoria, and implemented by Csd – Servizi Inclusion, Cooperativa Iride, Cooperativa il Geranio, Cooperativa Area, Diaconia Valdese. The first highly anticipated show is that of the choreographer and historic dancer of Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal, Cristiana Morganti, who makes her debut in Sicily on Friday 10 May at 8.30 pm at the Teatro Vittoria Colonna with her famous “Jessica and me”, a self-portrait ideally two voices of effective and surprising irony, where what happens behind the scenes of his professional career is revealed. A puzzle of gestures, shadows, muscles, tenacity, bravado, shyness, memories and projects.
