The Rotary Club of Lucca donates 28 new trees to the Walls

This morning the president Giuseppe Lunardinithe councilors and members of the Rotary Club of Lucca presented to the mayor Mario Pardini and to the councilors for public works, the environment and urban walls Nicola Buchignani, Cristina Consani and Remo Santini the 28 new trees planted on the Walls of Lucca, a gift from the Rotary Club of Lucca.

The Rotary Club of Lucca will turn 90 next year and is already working from 2023 with its resources to integrate the arboreal heritage of one of the oldest and most unique urban parks in Europe – says the president of the Rotary Club of Lucca Giuseppe Lunardini. – With a cost of 19,690 euros we bought and planted 21 specimens of ash (Fraxinus oxycarpa), 5 of holm oak (Quercus ilex) on the San Salvatore bastion and 2 poplars (Populus alba) on via dei Bacchettoni. A project that leaves something alive and lasting to our city and more generally to the environment. These plantings continue those of last year under the presidency of Gualtiero Pachetti with 37 new trees (12 ash trees on the San Salvatore bastion, 25 poplars in via dei Bacchettoni) with an investment of 28,721 euros. With the interventions of 2023 and 2024 the Rotary Club of Lucca has actually started and completed the new tree structure of this area of the Walls with a total expense of 48,411 euros“.

I thank the Rotary Club of Lucca which offers the city a gift that lasts over time and contributes significantly to the beauty and quality of our environment – declared the mayor Mario Pardini. – This is an example of how collaboration between public bodies, associations and private individuals can contribute together to a very complex general effort and global project. In past years, with urban forestation projects, we have planted almost a thousand new trees. In recent years, the Municipality has been very committed to the census and care of the urban tree heritage, increasing awareness of the importance of maintenance and planning of interventions on the public green spaces, an investment for our future“.
