The strengthening of Rai services in Catanzaro and the establishment of a separate editorial office in the capital are starting to become concrete prospects, albeit at different times, and in any case they have entered the work agenda of the national and regional top management of the Company.
While the strengthening of services will take place in a short time, with the destination of two journalistic resources dedicated to Catanzaro, for the possible establishment of the separate office we will have to wait for the appointment of the new Board of Directors – which will take place before the summer – and therefore of the new CEO. And the proposal will be presented to the new top management, evidently accompanied by the availability of the Municipality (or other public bodies) to provide a suitable headquarters.
This path emerged during a video conference that the mayor Nicola Fiorita had with the co-director of TgR Roberto Pacchetti, with the editor-in-chief of Tg3 Calabria Riccardo Giacoia and with the director of the Rai headquarters in Calabria, Massimo Fedele.
The mayor had already had, in recent weeks, an initial telephone contact with the co-director Pacchetti who had immediately understood the need expressed by the mayor in a letter sent to the Rai top management.
“I thank the co-director Pacchetti for the institutional sensitivity and for the seriousness with which he addressed the issue, together with the editor-in-chief Giacoia and the branch director Fedele – comments the mayor. We have identified a concrete, feasible path, knowing full well that there will be obstacles, which can however be overcome. The strengthening of journalistic resources is no small achievement, as new technologies allow more events to be covered, even with live broadcasts. But our main focus is the venue and we are confident in a positive outcome. In the next few weeks and certainly before the summer Pacchetti will come to Catanzaro on an institutional visit and it will be an important moment of discussion”.
Fiorita’s pressure also continues at parliamentary level. The president of the supervisory commission, Barbara Floridia, to whom the mayor had sent an official letter, replied “that she had promptly requested the competent RAI structures to carry out the necessary assessments for the purpose of any possible initiative in this regard”, while the Management Tgr announces that it has already sent a detailed report to the Institutional Relations Directorate which will then have to prepare a formal response for President Floridia.
