Jorit’s mural dedicated to inaugurated Giancarlo Siani. With Vasco’s ‘Every Time’ playing in the background, the protective drapes come down and his face and one of the most beautiful quotes from the Il Mattino reporter slowly appear. «You can fall thousands of times in life but if you are truly free in your thoughts, you will never do so on your knees but always standing» we read on the wall next to the face with the characteristic red marks that distinguish the works of the international artist.

Approximately 10 by 15 meters large, made on the side facade of the former Court, a six-storey building now home to the offices of the Municipality and the Justice of the Peace. The ceremony was held in the space in front of the entrance to the PalaCasoriawhere the mural can be seen better, in the presence of the Honorable Paolo Siani, brother of Giancarlo, of Jorit, of the mayor, Raffaele Bene and the councilor, Roberta Giova, but above all of three hundred students of Gandhi enthusiastic about the new work that the artist Jorit wanted to dedicate to the Mattino journalist killed by the Camorra at just 26 years old and who has become an example of legality.

«Giancarlo’s eyes look at us, his face forever in Casoria», the mayor, Raffaele Bene opens the debate with the students inside the sports hall. In fact, from the large windows of the PalaCasoria you can glimpse the eyes of Giancarloas if wanting to keep watch and keep company with the many activities dedicated to young people. The kids presented their questions to the guests: how do you overcome fear? How to build a path of peace? How to protect yourself from illegalities?

Paolo Siani tries to give some answers: «If today a municipal administration, a mayor decides to make a courageous choice, to put the photo of Giancarlo on the highest place in the city, of the most important building such as the Justice palace. And if a young artist, who didn’t know him because he was young at the time, decides to make that portrait, it means one thing: that the mafia has lost.”

In his speech, Jorit invites us to read books about the Mattino journalist: «I became passionate about Giancarlo’s story because my father was at the funeral and told me how much he participated. At that moment it was truly a shock to imagine a journalist who was simply writing suddenly being approached by killers who fired shots at him. For Naples it was something terrible.” After the debate, the plaque with the QR Code containing all the articles by Giancarlo Siani was discovered.
