Abandonment of waste, perpetrators sanctioned by the local police

There is no respite in the Local Police Force’s activity in combating crimes relating to waste disposal. During these first months of the current year there were in fact 41 cases of confirmed violation of the legislation which establishes rules and methods for the correct disposal of waste through the separate collection system.

Thanks to the use of remote video surveillance systems, also made available by BAR.SASpA, it was possible to verify a whole series of behaviors which then determine the unfortunate situation of degradation caused by waste abandoned in the city area. From the recorded images, we can clearly see who throws a bag from the car straight away towards the used clothing collection, who instead conveniently parks to go towards the glass collection bell, placing the wrapper with the waste next to it. The authors of these illicit behaviors were identified, summoned to the offices of the PL Command and sanctioned by the staff assigned to the Environmental Control Service.

The environmental control and monitoring activity carried out in recent months has also led to the transmission of three crime reports to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Trani, in relation to the discovery of as many sites where significant quantities of waste have been dumped.
A company present in the Barletta countryside was then subjected to inspection regarding the regularity of the release into the atmosphere of fumes deriving from the transformation process of some organic products, with the contribution of Arpa Puglia which verified the complex documentation accompanying the authorizations held by the same company.

“If anyone continues to think – commented the Mayor Cosimo Cannito – that our battle against the illicit abandonment of waste has become secondary, they are greatly mistaken. We will continue along this line with all our strength so that these behaviors will not can be accepted in a civilized and modern city like ours. I thank the Local Police Command and Bar.SA for their efforts and, above all, I thank all the citizens who have been carrying out separate waste collection for years in the ways and times required, demonstrating, thus, to love and respect our Barletta”.
Please remember that in the case of waste abandonment there are precise rules that provide for administrative fines or criminal charges based on the type and/or quantity of abandoned waste. In addition to the penalty for abandonment (up to 500 euros), a financial penalty of up to 200.00 euros is also applied for violation of the provisions of the union ordinance regulating separate waste collection.
