The D’Annunzio car park, located in Borgo San Paolo, is about to be the scene of new redevelopment works in order to make it more functional for motorists. These works, financed by Ministry of the Environment and Energy Securityare part of an experimental program to increase the resilience of urban settlements to the risks generated by climate change.
First phase of the works
The redevelopment works of D’Annunzio car park, whose square extends over a surface area of approximately 7 thousand square metres, began last February. The first phase of the works involved a part of the area, which will be accessible again starting from 22 April 2024. The stalls present have been reorganized to guarantee a better arrangement of vehicles during parking.
Second phase of the works
Starting from the end of April, activity will begin again in the D’Annunzio car park. During this phase, the remaining part of the square will be closed to the public to allow the redevelopment of the spaces. Interventions will be carried out replacement of the flooring existing with the restoration of the permeability of the soil, in order to favor the rainwater drainage. Moreover, they will come new trees plantedie will be inserted shading structures to create areas of shelter from the sun.
Accessibility to the rest area
Despite the work in progress, theaccess to the D’Annunzio car park will be partially guaranteed starting fromlast week of April 2024. The complete reopening of the area is scheduled for May 6th. During this phase, motorists will be able to use the parking spaces available in the already redeveloped part. Measures will also be adopted to facilitate traffic and report any deviations in the area affected by the works.
The intervention on the Hanging Garden
At the same time as the works, work will also continue in the car park attached to the headquarters municipal offices in Corso Ferrucci. This parking lot will remain accessible during works, guaranteeing an alternative stop for motorists. Furthermore, the area beneath the roof gardenlocated along via Gabriele D’Annunziowill not be affected by the works and will always remain free and accessible.

The redevelopment works of the D’Annunzio car park will also have important benefits from an environmental point of view.
