This year the Scajà Festival will not take place in Marnate; the organizers have decided, in fact, to cancel it as it is the date on which the event traditionally falls coincides with the election campaign period and the remaining weekends in June following the elections are already occupied by other events that cannot be postponed, such as, for example, the Girinvalle.
A decision which, after Marco Scazzosi’s statements, “SìAmo Marnate and Nizzolina”, became a political case, and for this reason Elisabetta Galli wanted to clarify the path, which also involved the other candidates, which led to the choice to cancel the party.
«It is with regret that we note a distorted interpretation of the facts relating to the Scajà Festival in Marnate, story exploited for political purposes and we believe it is necessary to clarify – explains the candidate – the Scajà Festival represents a traditional event for Marnate which has always been celebrated on the first or second Sunday of June, which this year falls in the election period. Out of respect for equal conditions in this period Only events are allowed which cannot be deferred, avoiding privileging one political party over another and impersonally (without references to the outgoing administration)”.
A legislation that has pushed the current outgoing administration, aware of the importance of this festival for those who live in the town, to discuss with the other candidates to decide by mutual agreement how to behave on this occasion.
«We all have this event particularly close to our hearts – he continues Maria Elisabetta Galli – because of this I proposed to keep the celebration of the festival on June 1st and 2ndeven though respecting the electoral regulations and guarantee the level playing field of all mayoral candidates in the elections of 8-9 June 2024.
I have then called a meeting in the presence of Marco Scazzosi and Luca Vergani to communicate this intent e establish shared methods of organization and fair and impartial participation, in order to ensure the success of the event in the best interests of citizens; for this reason I proposed to organize the party as per tradition, without any reference to the municipality of Marnate and to the current administration, with communications without the municipal logo.”
A solution that could have allowed the Scajà to take place, since it complies with the regulations of equal condicio which, we remember, allow events to be organized only in an impersonal way that does not give prominence to the outgoing administration.
«Candidate Scazzosi did not show up at the scheduled meeting – underlines the representative of “Here to be there” – limiting herself to send a letter with whichwithout even knowing what the proposal would be discussed, he strongly opposed the organization of the eventdeclaring that it could in no way be carried out during the electoral campaign and asking for its postponement.
Given the position of Scazzosi, who denied any possibility of discussion, unlike Vergani, who participated in the meeting, we reluctantly could not do anything other than suspend the celebration of the partyThat it could only have been achieved with the unanimous consent of the three current candidates.
The hypothesis of postponement, in fact, is not practicable; the Scajà festival is linked to the miracle that occurred in the first days of June at the end of the 19th century and furthermore, as known to those who have administered it for over 25 years, Girinvalle is scheduled for the Sunday following the elections, then we have the feast of San Luigi».
Furthermore, the solution advocated by Vergani and Galli would not have been new for Marnate, which in the past has seen the weekends of the festival coincide with the electoral campaign period.
«We would like to point out – recalls Elisabetta Galli – that in 2009, under the signature of the then deputy mayor Scazzosi, the Scajà celebration took placewithout any limitation, the last Sunday of May during the election campaign for the municipal elections.
What has changed since then? Perhaps candidate Scazzosi has a short memory, or perhaps the current interest is that of politically exploit the situationto gain electoral advantage, discrediting the current administration to the detriment of the citizens?
The statements of the last few days only confirm the insidious attempt that the “SìAmo Marnate e Nizzolina” list is making: first Scazzosiknowing full well that his opposition would have made it impossible to organize the event, does not show up at a meeting where he would have had the opportunity to share his ideas and find a solution, for the benefit of the citizens, to celebrate the holiday; then, in the newspapers, he writes that it is the fault and will of the current administration not to organize the Scajà. The candidate for “Here to be there” invites the inhabitants of Marnate and Nizzolina not to limit themselves to listening to the various voices to fully understand what happened and decide who is telling the most truthful version, but to consult the public documentation to understand what really happened .
