Back to the big screen”The Virgin Suicides” debut at directed by Sofia Coppola. 25 years after the release of the film, the Cineteca di Bologna with its project “Il Cinema Ritrovato” brings the “cult” to the cinemas of our peninsula with the restoration in 4K rmade by Criterion supervised by director of photography Ed Lachman. “The Virgin Suicides” is scheduled at Politeama Paolillo of Barletta Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th. An unmissable event: screening in the original language with Italian subtitles.

In 1999 Sofia Coppola read the novel of the same name by Jeffrey Eugenides, composing a screenplay which she submitted to Muse Production with the support of her famous father Francis. The work of the young 27-year-old immediately pleased the public and critics. The excellent cast made up of Kristen Dunst, Katleen Turner, James Woods, Danny De Vito and other famous actors managed to tell with extreme skill the dramatic story of five unhappy sisters who take their own lives in an inexplicable and silent collective suicide, in the background of an oppressive, weak family, in an American dimension of the 70s, dazed and confused. Suitors, feelings and loves are not enough to divert the course of tragic events. With talent, Sofia Coppola began at the time to outline excellently, with sensitive, intelligent and accurate work, her map of early youth and the female universe and her latest film “Priscilla” demonstrates this eloquently.

Furthermore, Wednesday 8 May at the Politeama Paolillo returns in a restored version in 4K “Perfect Blue” authentic masterpiece by the excellent cartoonist Satoshi Kon who won the Public Prize at Fant’Asia ’97 (Montreal). After last April’s box office success, here’s the disturbing and gripping thriller based on the original novel by Yoshikazu Takeuchi. Screenings 6.30pm/9.00pm.
