Great success for the final event “The Hidden Treasures of Campania” which took place at the Liceo Artistico “F. Degni” of Torre del Greco, Saturday 4 May in the historic headquarters of Piazza Palomba with a visit to the Coral Museum and the sites of the Church of S. Maria del Principio, the Baronial Palace and Cento Fontane. The event is one of many promoted by the Network of Artistic High Schools of Campania, created in agreement with the USR Campania with multiple purposes: to encourage exchanges of educational and professional experiences, to promote knowledge of the Artistic Heritage of our Region in its context historical and cultural, encourage the school system to use cultural assets and activities and enhance teaching based on action research and participatory planning methodology. The initiative involved the simultaneous opening to the public of selected sites such as the Baronial Palace with the Hundred Fountains, the Church of Santa Maria del Principio with access to the Church below with the main altar surrounded by seventeenth-century lava he was born in School Coral and Cameo Museum. Visits to the school laboratories in full swing were very popular: the 3D laboratory of the Architecture and Environment branch, those of Plastics, Engraving, Goldsmithing and Pictorial or Graphic Art, in which the student-guides answered a barrage of questions , showed artefacts, cameos and jewels in progress and shared the ongoing project with visitors. Among many, the project of the 3D Architecture laboratory, already presented to the Mayor Luigi Mennella who literally opened the initiative, with the Councilor for Public Education Maria Teresa Sorrentino visiting, first and foremost, the Art School. It is a redevelopment project of the port and the Mulini Marzoli complex designed with full respect for ecology, inclusiveness and shared usability, in which the essential nature of the impact allows for the maximum exaltation of the splendid Vesuvius-Gulf of Naples panorama. It was this usability that particularly struck the visitors who concluded their vision of the project by wishing it a future realization. Degni, by joining this event, took the opportunity to highlight the culture of the Torrese area also from a tourist perspective, aware of the presence of the city’s rich artistic, naturalistic, cultural and food and wine heritage, which has always coexisted in this area. It is no coincidence that sea, culture, art and craftsmanship are those treasures that pushed the historian Francesco Balzano to define the Torre del Greco as “little Naples”. This awareness suggested the viaticum to accompany the visit of the chosen sites: Baronial Palace and Cento Fontane, Coral Museum, the Church of Santa Maria del Principio. The “guides” of this mini-tour, the students of Degni’s Artistic and Tourist courses, were extremely well prepared and documented the history of the chosen sites with great commitment, accompanying the public as Ciceroni. The “corner” reserved for Assocoral artisans, often former students of the school as well as parents of current members, could not be missing, with Sandro Orlando as representative, to show the possible path of a boy from his school education to his future profession. Many authorities attended, including the mayor, Avv. Luigi Mennella, the councilor for public education, Mariateresa Sorrentino and the Coral art historian Dr. Caterina Ascione.

I am very happy” concluded the director of the IS “Francesco Degni” Dr Benedetta Rostan, “of the public success of the event. People whose deep sense of belonging drives us to visit us every time we promote a new initiative and open the museum and laboratories to the public. This time many tourists also responded who, visiting our city, took up our invitation and came both to the Museum and to visit the city sites we had chosen. And, according to what my student guides told me, they were very curious and interactive people. I am proud of my students and their teachers, who always participate with great enthusiasm and proactivity. Every event we do is a real task that makes our kids increasingly aware of the professionalism they are acquiring and whose distinctive feature is given by that wealth of informal and non-formal skills that they bring into play and of which they often don’t even have conscious. The enthusiasm makes the work behind the preparation of these events lighter, which is now starting to intensify, given the revival of the Feast of the 4 Altars. I remind you that the Coral Museum of our Institute in Piazza Luigi Palomba will be open to the public every Saturday until 8 June from 8.30 to 12.30. I conclude, therefore, by making an appointment with you… see you soon”.
