Serie A2 Playout – Salvation achieved for Rovigo, Ancona and Moncalieri

Dimensione Bagno Carugate, Basket Roma and Velcofin Interlocks Vicenza sentenced to the second round.

Solmec Rovigo remains in Serie A2, following the 64-60 victory over Dimensione Bagno Carugate in the first round of these playouts. The first quarter opens with wet powder for both teams, but the situation is broken when Mia Masic finds two triples within 35 seconds, giving Rovigo an 8-5 lead. In the first half, balance reigns supreme and in fact after ten minutes the score is still at 16 all. The second quarter opens with a back and forth between the two teams: Viviani and Furlani respond to Caccialanza and Usuelli, giving rise to an offensively perfect start to the quarter. The first team to attempt to escape is Carugate, who with Tarkovicova, Fabbricini and Usuelli finds a partial score of 0-6 which brings them to +6 (24-30). A few plays later, with Albanelli’s basket, Carugate also reaches +8 (26-34), before however suffering Rovigo’s partial comeback: thanks to two triples from Battilotti and Paoletti the Venetians climb back up to -1 with a partial 7-0 (33-34), before Caccialanza’s free throws put everyone to rest at 33-36. Thanks to an 8-0 run signed by Viviani and Battilotti, Rovigo attempted to escape at the beginning of the third period, taking the lead by 5 (41-36), but Carugate immediately found parity with Albanelli and Usuelli within 24 seconds. From that moment on, the two teams remained tied, with neither managing to go beyond four points, closing the third quarter at 49-51. Carugate remains in front for most of the fourth period and thanks to Albanelli’s three-point play he flies to +5 (55-60) with three minutes to go. Once again however, Rovigo has a blaze and with Paoletti and Zanetti scores a 9-0 run which gives them back the lead of the match (64-60). One minute from the end Carugate calls a timeout, but first Albanelli (twice) and then Tarkovicova miss the triple which could shorten the gap, forcing the Lombard team into a 64-60 defeat. Masic and Viviani were the top scorers of the match with 14 points, but on a difficult evening for Sara Zanetti, Rovigo found its ace up its sleeve in Anna Paoletti, who scored 13 points in 17 minutes from the bench. Carugate only gets one assist in the whole match and will play for survival in the second round against Vicenza.

Basket Girls Ancona once again conquers the Basket Roma parquet, earning early salvation thanks to the 48-51 victory in Game 3. Roma takes an 8-4 lead at the start of the match, but Ancona dominates the first quarter: from that moment on, in fact, the Marche team found a partial score of 0-12 which allowed them to close the first period at 8-16. Roma, after having been dry for six and a half minutes, gets back to moving the retina with Fantini at the start of the second half and with Preziosi and Lucantoni they get back up to -3 (17-20). Pelizzari’s three-point play pushes the Lazio team back and despite the offensive difficulties of both teams, after twenty minutes Ancona is still ahead, with the score 22-27. In the third quarter the situation is reversed: Roma scores an 8-0 run which allows them to regain command of the match (30-27) and despite Pierdicca immediately equalizing the score with a triple, the home team goes to the last break in front, with a score of 41-36. Ancona suffered a 19-9 run in the third period, but made up for it in the last quarter. After having regained parity with Dinga-Mbomi, the two teams travel at the same pace throughout the half: with 52 seconds left the two teams are at 48-49, but Lucantoni misses two opportunities to put his team ahead. On the other hand, Dinga-Mbomi is glacial with free throws and brings his team to +3 (49-51). Lucantoni misses the desperate triple to equalize and the match ends at 49-51, with Roma having to play for survival in the second round against Torino Teen Basket. Roma loses only 8 balls, but shoots 23% from the field compared to 36% of their opponents: Ancona sends three players in double figures, one of which, Barbakadze, also scores a double double (10+12 rebounds).

Tecnoengineering Moncalieri overturns the field factor in Game 3 and earns salvation thanks to the 42-43 victory on the Velcofin Interlocks Vicenza pitch. After a good start by Moncalieri, Vicenza regains command of the match thanks to a 7-0 run that brings it to 9-6, but the guests are back in front with Cicic and Salvini: the two teams respond blow for blow and after ten minutes the score is 13-14. In the second period Vicenza emerges: despite having difficulties in attack, the home team holds their opponents to just four points and tries to escape. In fact, Moncalieri finds only two baskets from the field, with Giordano and Pasero, while the home team scores 11 points and after twenty minutes they are ahead 24-18. In the third period the offensive difficulties of both teams from the previous quarter persist and in fact Moncalieri and Vicenza score 18 points between them. After thirty minutes neither of them managed to escape, with the score still at 32-28. In the final period, Vicenza goes +8 (39-31), but Moncalieri finds a 0-8 run in two minutes which brings the situation back to perfect parity at 39 with two minutes to go. Togliani puts the +3 bomb, but Cicic immediately closes the gap (42-41). Togliani has the free throws to bring Vicenza up 1 with eight seconds to go, but scores 0/2, while on the other side Salvini is glacial and places the overtaking basket almost on the siren, which gives Moncalieri the victory 42-43 . Moncalieri takes 20 rebounds more than its opponents (47-27) and takes home the match despite 25 turnovers. Vicenza thus gives up on ending its season early and prepares for the second round against Carugate.
