Two people (a man and a woman) died in a road accident which occurred on Sunday afternoon, 5 May, on the Ionian state road 106, near the junction for Castellaneta Marina (Taranto) towards Reggio Calabria. The victims, as far as we have learned, are a 46-year-old man born in Noci (Bari) but resident in Mottola and a 45-year-old woman from Mottola (Taranto) who were traveling in a Mini Countryman which crashed into an embankment after a violent collision with a lorry used for transporting fruit which overturned on the road and lost its load.

The victims are Domenica Semeraro born in Mottola (Taranto) in 1979 and Vanni Gentile born in Noci (Bari) in 1978. The couple was on board a Mini while traveling on state road 106 towards Reggio Calabria. After the crash, the car ended up on an embankment. The impact with the vehicle transporting fruit occurred in the Castellaneta area. The driver of the heavy vehicle, from Monopoli (Bari), was injured. The 118 health workers, the firefighters and the carabinieri were on site, entrusted with the task of reconstructing the exact dynamics of the accident and establishing responsibilities. The road was closed to traffic with the diversion of car traffic onto alternative routes.
