Lorenzo’s path comes to a halt in the final Musetti at the Challenger of Cagliari. The Italian, who returned to play in a final after almost two years, lost to the Argentine Mariano Navone, n. 41 in the world: 7-5, 6-1 the final score in favor of no. 3 of the seeding who will enter the top 30 for the first time in his career on Monday. A double-sided match for Musetti, who is however forced to chase in both the first and second sets. Navone always had the initiative in hand, taking advantage of the contribution of the serve with 80% of firsts on the court. The first set is the most balanced: Navone serves for the set, Musetti recovers the break deficit but immediately after gives up the serve and at the fifth set point he loses the set. The second partial, however, is an Argentine monologue, with “Navoneta” winning eight of the last nine games played.
Now Rome
At the first title of the year after the two finals lost at ATP level (Rio de Janeiro and Bucharest) Navone confirms that he is one of the fittest players in 2024. At the beginning of the year the South American was n. 125 in the world, from Monday it will be no. 31 in the ATP rankings. Head to Rome, however, for Lorenzo Musetti which will be the leader of the Italian group after Sinner’s withdrawal. The Carrara native will have time to recover from his efforts in Sardinia: as the top seed, in fact, he will only come into play between Friday and Saturday.
