Varesina stops Piacenza at 2-2. Thanks to this point, the Phoenix qualify for the semifinal of the playoffs. In a week at the “Garilli” there will be a sort of rematch of today’s match, because the red and whites finished second with this draw. Caldiero Terme has earned promotion to the next Serie C championship who won 4-2 away against Villa Valle. The guests immediately took the lead with Recino converting a penalty following a foul by Pertosa against Artioli. The second goal came at the start of the second half with a spell from Ndoye. Varesina then reacts and thanks to Manicone and a penalty converted by Orellana manages to equalize. The match ends with a score of 2-2 and the rossoblù finish in fifth place with Arconatese with coach Marco Spilli’s team ahead on goal difference.

First half
After a rather bland start, in the 17th minute came the episode that changed the game with a penalty for Piacenza, caused by a foul by Pertosa which brought down Artioli, fed by D’Agostino. Recino appears on the spot and displaces Basti, for the advantage of Piacenza. Immediate reaction from Varesina with Gasparri who puts in a cross with his right foot with Sali who almost fails to find the decisive deflection, with the ball ending up in Moro’s arms. On the half hour mark, Guidetti tries, but his shot goes wide. In the 34th minute Grieco tried his luck with a free kick, but his right-footed shot committed Moro who removed the threat. Manicone then tries to turn in the area but his right foot is very weak and the red and white goalkeeper blocks easily. After 2 minutes of injury time the first half of the match ends. The teams go to rest with Piacenza leading 1-0. For both teams there is no good news coming from the other fields. Caldiero is ahead 4-0 at Villa d’Alme and Arconatese is ahead 1-0 over Clivense.
Second half
In the first minute of the second half Ndoye scores the 2-0 with a beautiful right-footed shot who kisses the post to the right of a motionless Basti. Gerbaudo and Recino immediately had the opportunity to score the third goal, but Basti was ready in both situations. Varesina reacts with Orellana serving Grieco who shoots with confidence from sixteen meters and finds the decisive deflection from an opposing defender with the ball ending up in a corner. At 12′ Manicone with his right foot from the edge of the area finds the bottom corner and scores the goal to make it 2-1 and reopen the match. Orellana, very close to equalising, comes back on the left and shoots at the near post with the ball barely coming out. In the 28th minute Orellana is fed very well by Sali as he tries to jump the goalkeeper and is knocked down and the referee points to the spot. The number 10 of the Phoenicians appears from eleven meters and displaces Moro for the 2-2 goal. A few moments later Vitale frees Orellana with his heel and on number 10 he shoots with his left foot, but misses the target. The last thrill for Varesina comes from the last corner kick in favor of Piacenza with Recino who puts in a very dangerous ball, but none of him manages to push it into the goal. At the end of 6 minutes of injury time the referee blows the whistle for the end of the regular season. Varesina draws 2-2 with Piacenza and gains access to the playoffs. Caldiero Terme wins 4-2 at Villa d’Almè and is promoted to Serie C.
