Three well-deserved and decisive points for Ternana, who beat Catanzaro with a Eurogoal from Di Stefano and reached 40 points. An exciting match, during which the Fere definitely deserved the victory, wasting a lot. The results from the other fields once again upset the ranking, with Ternana now in sixteenth place, two points ahead of Ascoli. At the moment the rossoverdi would play the playouts against Ascoli but the last day will be decisive.

New lineup

For the decisive home match against Catanzaro, coach Breda ‘changes’ the starting eleven, with many important changes. The first is completely new: Amatucci and Faticanti together from the first minute. The second is a precise choice in attack: it will be played without a central striker. Raimondo, Favilli and Dionisi are out. Space from the first minute for Pereiro and Di Stefano. The third is the return, after time immemorial, of Favasuli as starter. Only the lineup on the pitch will be able to resolve doubts about the game system. Everything revolves around Casasola’s position: if he plays right arm it will be a 3-5-1-1; if instead he were to occupy the right-back position then we would have, for the first time, a four-man defence, with four midfielders, a finisher and a striker.

First half

Ternana starts with the 3-5-2. Casasola confirmed as right arm, with Favasuli fifth in midfield. Pereiro central striker, assisted by Di Stefano. In the 5th minute referee Fourneau immediately invents a free kick from the edge for Catanzaro, with an attached warning to Casasola. Vandeputte’s shot is well saved by Vitali. In the 7th minute, great opportunity for the Fere: cross by Pereiro and cut by Carboni. Central conclusion but Fulignati’s save is difficult, with a shot from the back and a deflection into the corner. In the 35th minute Pereiro attempted a curling shot and the ball went just wide, but was deflected for a corner. Two minutes later, another chance for Fere, with a possessed Favasuli who wins the ball back, heels it for Di Stefano who enters the area and puts in a very tense cross that crosses the entire length of the goal without a red-green capable of finding the winning deflection. The first half ends without further opportunities but with a clear plot: Catanzaro dribbling and Ternana high for an attack on the first Calabrian play.

Second half

The second half opens with the incursions of Di Stefano, author of raids on the wing which, however, fail to transform into scoring opportunities. In the 60th minute, Ternana had an incredible opportunity: Amatucci won the ball back and sent it to Luperini, the cross found Di Stefano who headed it in without fail but Fulignati pulled off an amazing save with his foot. In the 62nd minute free kick from the edge for Fere and Pereiro grazes the crossbar. In the 65th minute Mister Breda decides to make his team more offensive and brings on Dionisi for Carboni. Di Stefano moves up to fifth in midfield. In the 69th minute Ternana again, with Luperini wasting an excellent opportunity following a pass from Pereiro. In the 75th minute another huge opportunity for Ternana: coming out of the corner, a quick restart and a pass from Dionisi to open the door for Raimondo. The red-green center forward’s left foot is too central and Fulignati saves again with his foot. In the 78th minute Ternana took the lead with a magical right-footed shot from Di Stefano, which he placed into the top corner following an assist from Dionisi. Crazy goal. In the 83rd minute, an excellent Dionisi shoots right-footed from outside the area with the ball just wide.
