“I’m convinced I’ll go to the second round.” Stefania Saccardi, candidate with Italia Viva, Italian Socialist Party and Libdem in the next Florentine municipal elections, says she is decidedly sure of the electoral result. During the presentation of the new electoral committee in via Tavanti, the candidate also clarified the slogan “At the center with Saccardi”.

“It is not a slogan but the name of the list – underlines Saccardi – because in an electoral campaign that is divided between the right of Schmidt, who presents himself as civic but is accompanied by the hand of Donzelli and Marcheschi, and Funaro who is the continuation of this council, we believe there is an important space in the center. We want to represent a center that brings together the reformist part of the democratic party. Who doesn’t recognize themselves in this administration.”

As a political base, Saccardi is aiming for centre-left voters. “Mine – he underlines – is a candidacy in discontinuity with the previous council. A candidacy that stands within the history, values and tradition of the centre-left but without sharing the position and the program carried out by the Democratic Party and by Sara Funaro As I always say: you can change teams even without changing the field.”

On the program, Saccardi focuses on infrastructure and the housing plan. “The infrastructures in this city must be built, they are an element of development – he comments – From the new airport runway, to the high speed train, up to the completion of the tramway network. And we don’t want to forget those who are left behind: one of the main points of our program concerns the housing emergency: we propose a real housing plan that aims to provide a housing response both to those who are on the waiting list to access public housing and to those who belong to the so-called gray band of those who, despite having a job or a business, are unable to find housing at affordable prices”.

What if she wasn’t the one going to a possible runoff? “Once we are on the ballot we will make our assessments – he specifies – It will depend on various aspects: from the electoral result to the discussions we decide to have. An issue on which we will make a decision later.”
