During this last weekend, the eastern offshoot of the Azores anticyclone extended along the central-western Mediterranean, resulting in more stable atmospheric conditions on average, even if there was no shortage of local cloud cover, all this in a thermal context in line or slightly below the averages for the period.
Over the next few days this baric system will undergo substantial variations as the Azores anticyclone will tend to retreat towards the mid-Atlantic and at the same time expand northwards, favoring a lowering of the disturbed flow in correspondence with the Iberian Peninsula and the western Mediterranean , with the development of a real sagging within which we will find a disturbance which on Monday will cross France and the Iberian peninsula and then move to the western Mediterranean on Tuesday, where it will give rise to a depression circulation fed by masses of cold and unstable air coming from northern Europe.
Along the central Mediterranean, however, masses of warm and humid air of North African origin will be temporarily attracted, resulting in a temporary increase in temperatures.
Subsequently, the depression area will move close to Sardinia, determining a worsening of the atmospheric conditions which will affect a large part of the central-southern regions, including Sicily, where there would be a good opportunity to try to partially fill the heavy water deficit present in many areas of the island, especially the central eastern and southern ones.
But in the meantime, after this analysis, let’s take a more detailed look at the weather forecast for the next few days.
EVOLUTION
Estimated time for Monday 6 May
From the early hours of the morning and for most of the day over a large part of Sicily we will have slightly cloudy sky conditions, except for some local cloud thickening along the internal areas but which will not be associated with noteworthy phenomena.
In the evening, starting from western Sicily, there will be a gradual intensification of cloud cover but which will not be associated with precipitation.
Winds: on western Sicily we will have moderate Sirocco ventilation, while along the Tyrrhenian sector we will have weak ventilation from the eastern quadrants.
Mari: the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ionian Sea will be slightly moved, while the Strait of Sicily will be rough.
Temperatures in general increase.
Estimated weather for Tuesday 7 May
Already in the morning we will have cloudy sky conditions across the island but with low risk of precipitation, at most there may be some local precipitation of weak intensity, a tendency towards further intensification of cloud cover in the late evening starting from the Trapani area where there will be phenomena scattered of weak intensity.
Winds weak to moderate from the western and southwestern quadrants.
Mari from recently rough to rough, especially the Sicilian Channel which will be rough
Temperatures slightly decreasing.
Estimated time for Wednesday 8 May
A morning that will see cloudy to very cloudy sky conditions everywhere with rain that will wet the Trapani and Palermo areas, but with a tendency already from late morning to a further extension of cloudiness and phenomena to a large part of Sicily where the precipitation locally will take on a of downpour or thunderstorm.
The heaviest rainfall will affect the Etna area and much of central western Sicily, especially Palermo, and then along the Tyrrhenian coast of Messina.
THE winds over almost the entire regional territory they will tend to orient themselves from the eastern quadrants, except in the Trapani area and along the Strait of Sicily, where in the evening they will blow with moderate intensity from the north-western quadrants.
Mari generally rough, locally very rough will be the Strait of Sicily.
Temperatures in general a decrease, especially with regard to daytime values.
