A pink river of 10,500 women invaded Treviso on Sunday, bringing with it a message of hope, prevention and solidarity to all those women affected by breast cancer, today the first in terms of incidence. Women of all ages: from the mother with her six-month-old baby in her arms to fifteen over ninety-year-olds from the Maserada I Girasoli retirement home. It was they, sitting in their wheelchairs, accompanied by their volunteers or their daughters, who received the most beautiful applause at the Dante Bridge where they stopped to admire the wave of walkers that flowed before their eyes.
Fundraising for Lilt
The event, now in its tenth edition, raises funds for Lilt, the Italian League for the fight against cancer, which will allocate the proceeds to the purchase of a new means of transporting patients. Only last year did the 190 volunteers from Treviso travel 650 patients who otherwise would have had no alternatives. In 4750 trips, 476 thousand kilometers were travelled, “almost twelve trips around the world”, says Alessandro Gava, a doctor who has always supported Treviso in Rosa. Numerous groups of companies, societies, parishes, sports organizations and even politicians wanted to be present at the start. The councilors Maria Teresa De Gregorio, Gloria Sernagiotto, Gloria Tessarolo, Rosanna Vettoretti and the councilors Claudia Tronchin and Caterina Dozzo were also on the march with the “women outside the municipality” group, united in the solidarity march. However, there was no shortage of controversy. Like every year, MEP Rosanna Conte was given bib number one. However, this time she showed up at the “start” with the electoral “holy card” with her name in plain sight, proudly displaying it at the starting line. A gesture that was not very welcome, and which basically was almost an own goal in the city of mayor Mario Conte who, a few meters away, like every year, was overwhelmed by the boundless affection of the women who wanted the ritual selfie with him.
