Livorno, 5 May 2024 – Public success for the first day of Medicea the food and wine event that is taking place in Fortezza Nuova in Livorno and which celebrates the international vocation of the most modern city in Tuscany.
Organized by the Livorno delegation of the European Sommelier School, the cultural association Convivium and Fortezza Nuova with the patronage of the Tuscany Region, the province of Livorno and the Maremma and Tirreno Chamber of Commerce, Medicea 2024 addresses cultural issues that are felt today more than ever, such as that of ‘integration passing through wine and culinary art.
The food and wine event was officially opened on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm with the presence of the Governor of Tuscany Eugenio Giani who participated in the presentation of the volume “Citizenship Recipes” wanted by the municipality of Livorno to put together the recipes of foreign citizens, dear to the family and territorial traditions of many places in the world, and the typical Livorno dishes.
Elena Bertelli and Elena Morelli, officials of the Civil Registry of the Municipality of Livorno who created the project, and the person in charge Giuseppe Simonetti will be present. The tasting stands and exhibitors have been selected and great expertise for each event and masterclass proposed during the event which continues today, Sunday 5 May, with opening at 12pm and closing at 9pm.
Tasting tables and masterclasses were visited by hundreds of attentive wine lovers who also followed with interest the round table that took place on Saturday morning which brought the world of wine to attention starting from the question: Does natural wine exist?

Today, Sunday 5 May, they will continue with: 12.30 pm – “Beer and cured meats: the unusual pair” – The artisan brewery Birro and Atas (Tuscan Association of Cured Meat Tasters) Pisa will present the best combinations. 3.00 pm – “Classic Method from native vines” with Nicoletta di Cova. Campania, Fiano grape variety – Val d’Aosta, Priè Blanc grape variety – Friuli, Ribolla grape variety – Sicily, Nerello Mascalese grape variety – Piedmont, Cortese grape variety – Piedmont, Nebbiolo grape variety 5.00 pm – Sensory journey into the Tuscan PDOs: Pecorino Toscano and Pecorino delle Balze Volterrane . in-depth study of Tuscan PDOs with Marco Franchini, ONAF delegate (national organization of Cheese Tasters) Pisa 7.00 pm – White Germany led by Nicoletta Dicova, where it will be possible to get to know Weisburgunder, Sylvaner and other white grape varieties from leading producers of the VDP, the association of German wine elite.
We will have the opportunity to discover the potential and great quality of German whites even outside the Riesling universe.

Moments of great interest were: the round table on Saturday morning entitled “Does natural wine exist?” which saw the participation of professors from the University of Pisa, oenologists, journalists and winemakers. Clarity was gained on what is meant by natural wine through a lively discussion between Vincenza Folgheretti, oenologist, Sandra Donnini, pharmacologist from the University of Siena, Stefano Cinelli Colombini from Fattoria dei Barbi and editor of Intravino, Alessandro Filippi, oenologist and creator of Vini di Luce Method, Francesco Continisio President of Italy European Sommelier School.
