Obstetrics, a new hospitalization room inaugurated in Alessandria – News

On the occasion of the International Day of Midwives, which is celebrated on May 5, a new hospitalization room was inaugurated within the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at the university hospital of Alessandria.

“It is equipped – explains the director Davide Dealberti – with a portable ultrasound machine and an ergonomic bed. It is dedicated to obstetric patients who access the emergency room or have to undergo a scheduled hospitalization. Having an acceptance station, with a wireless monitor without wires, will allow us to reduce times and improve the service offered”.

The Aou Obstetrics is also the reference birth center for the province of Asti for the management and care of high-risk and pathological pregnancies.

In 2023, 1,046 children were born in Alessandria (558 boys, 448 girls). “What distinguishes our birth center – recalls Sonia Salis, coordinator of the midwives – is the availability of epidural analgesia guaranteed 24 hours a day and the possibility of giving birth in water or following the positions preferred by the mother during labour”.

There is also the aspect of cord blood donation for solidarity and research purposes because 50% of all donations in Piedmont come from the Alessandria Obstetrics Center which boasts the record in 2023 of approximately 30% of bags collected ( 1 in 3 women) compared to the national average of 2-5%.
