A memory of the Red Days of Viareggio in May 1920

The laying of a bouquet of flowers took place on the morning of Saturday 4 May at Largo 2 Maggio 1920, in the historic heart of the city in front of the Matilde Tower, to remember the Red Days of Viareggio in May 1920. The organizations that make up the 2 May Committee and various citizens participated in the ceremony, thus reaffirming the now consolidated appointment every May with this crucial episode in the twentieth-century history of Viareggio. This 104th anniversary was also the opportunity to remember how Augusto Morganti, the linesman of the Viareggio team in the now famous Viareggio-Lucchese match, was the first murdered in Italy for causes relating to sport and how the Red Days were the only case of insurrection and self-management of a city in the context of the Red Biennium 1919/1920. The appointment with the second event is for Saturday 11 May at 5.30 pm at the headquarters of the League of Shipwrights and Calafati for the presentation of Roberto Gambini’s comic “Storia Forgotten” Edizioni Hop Frog.
