Eighth edition from 23 to 25 May of the cycling event to break down architectural and mental barriers
MESSINA – The eighth edition of the “Giro dei due mari con Marzia” will start on May 23, the cycling event that crosses the entire province of Messina with the aim of breaking down the architectural and mental barriers that marginalize the disabled. This year the adventure of Marzia and her father Gianni Raineri, in fact, will begin early: usually the event is held at the beginning of June but for the eighth edition it was decided to start early in order to also involve schools. The dates of the second and third stage, therefore, will be 24 and 25 May. And that’s not the only news: among others, there is also the patronage of the Municipality of Messina, whose coat of arms will be worn on the chest of the athletes.
As “a container of stories”, the “Tour of the two seas with Marzia” has been defined in recent years. And in fact the story of Marzia and father Gianni, who wanted to take his daughter with him on a bicycle and who for this reason pushed him to create “La Marzia”, is not the only one: during the cycling event several experiences intertwine and more lives, which are shared to raise awareness among the entire population. And it is also for this reason that another novelty this year is linked to the initiative to create a memorial that tells of all the experiences felt by those who have cycled alongside Marzia in recent years. Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration with the “Villa Lina – Ritiro” school, on 7, 14 and 21 May there will be awareness meetings with the students of the Comprehensive Institute.
Together with Marzia
As always, together with Marzia and Gianni there will also be the friends of the Asd Cicloturistica Castanea, with the president Giacomo Crisafulli. The association has been organizing the event since the first edition and has always supported Marzia and Gianni. There will be numerous municipalities, administrations and bodies involved during this eighth edition of the “Giro dei due mari con Marzia”, and in particular those of Scaletta Zanclea and Taormina, which have given, like the Municipality of Messina, their patronage.
The route of the “Tour of the two seas with Marzia”
Even if the official start will be from Piazza Unione Europea (Town Hall) in the presence of the mayor Federico Basile and the councilor for Social Services Alessandra Calafiore, Marzia and the entire group will start from Castanea, home of the Asd Cicloturistica and of Gianni, for a “unofficial” departure from the Luigi Capuana school in the hilly village in the northern area of Messina. The finish line, however, will be at the Oasi Azzurra VIllage of San Saba with the classic “Pasta party”. The more detailed program will be provided later. In the meantime, a month after the start of the event, the Facebook and Instagram social campaign has also begun, for some curiosities about the “Tour of the two seas with Marzia”.
Accompanying the group during the entire event: the escort of the “Motostaffette Sicilia” with Antonio Greco, Totò Lapunzina and the president Salvo Muratore, the photographer Tindaro Bartolotta, the video operator Salvatore Barbera, the videomaker Matteo D’Arrigo and many other associations or individuals who will join during the ride, even for just a short distance.
