PALERMO – Nobody expected it. Everyone loved Pietro and Laura. In via Notarbartolo the eyes of those present are wide open with a horrendous feeling of surprise when faced with news that broke out this morning.
According to the first reconstruction, Laura Lupo, who belonged to the municipal police force, would have fired at her husband, Pietro Delia, and then turned the weapon against herself.
Falzone: “A blow for everyone”
A murder suicide. We are at number 49 in an elegant residential area. A few meters away the Falcone tree remembers women and men who sacrificed themselves to make this land a little better.
The faces do not abandon that tragic amazement. “A blow for everyone, a tragedy”, mutters the municipal councilor for the municipal police, Dario Falzone.
Colucciello: “A respectable family”
“We didn’t expect it – says the commander of the corps, Angelo Colucciello -. Let’s talk about a respectable family. The terrible truth is that there are two bodies on the ground. Let’s give those who investigate time to reconstruct.”
There is a small mourning crowd around. “They were beautiful people – says a lady who knew the couple -, our children grew up together”. Another voice: “I heard on the radio… I didn’t want to believe it and I rushed. Unfortunately it’s all true.”
Trizzino: “I can’t believe it”
In a corner, destroyed by pain, the doctor Giorgio Trizzino, founder of Samot who had met Pietro precisely through his commitment to palliative care. “I can’t believe it,” he barely manages to murmur too.
The carabinieri patrol the area delicately. Men with gloves and shoes enter and exit number 49. Around the perimeter of the mourning, Via Notarbartolo shines on a day of sun and ice cream. No one expected this atrocious event. Nobody saw it coming.
