TERAMO. The start date, May 15, is not yet certain. But it is certain that the works planned at the Teramo court are already a case and risk turning into a boomerang for the future of the courthouse. They will certainly start under the banner of protests, starting with that of the Bar Association which has not yet received any official communication on the matter and is questioning the usefulness of spending Pnrr funds on an “obsolete” structure, fearing the risk that it could become “the minor court of Abruzzo”.
«The Council of the Bar Association», declares the president Antonio Lessiani, «expresses all his dissatisfaction, considering that the works should only concern the so-called energy efficiency (replacement of fixtures, ventilation system) plus the raising of some balustrades and the renovation of some toilet facilities. Tens and tens of millions of euros will be spent, we cannot yet know how many, on a structure whose design dates back to the 1950s, which is and will remain completely inadequate with respect to the needs of an efficient administration of justice . In L’Aquila there is a recently rebuilt court and a Court of Appeal, in Pescara there is a large and modern court, in Chieti the construction of a modern judicial citadel is planned. In Teramo, however, huge funds are used on a completely obsolete and inadequate structure. If, as expected, the courts of Lanciano and Vasto are merged with that of Chieti and if those of Sulmona and Avezzano are merged with that of L’Aquila, the court of Teramo will become the minor court of Abruzzo. If we add to this the fact that, once again, the Teramo court still stands out in terms of backlog, it is easy to predict, in a few years from now, that our court will also become a dead branch to be merged with some other office ». During the execution of the works the offices of the Order will be transferred and it is not known where. «This», specifies Lessiani, «when by law the COA must have its headquarters in the court itself. Even the court bar, for whose maintenance the Council of the Bar Association has fought, apparently will have to remain closed during the works, following which it will hardly be able to reopen, given that the relevant premises will probably be used as offices”. Lessiani, who wonders what happened to the judicial citadel project discussed during a visit by the head of the judicial building department, announces a council meeting for May 9th to evaluate initiatives to carry forward.
