THE MACCHIA GROUP FINISHES EIGHTH, THE DERBY AGAINST WP NAPOLI LIONS FINISHES 11-10

Gruppo Macchia Basilicata Nuoto 2000 closes its Regular Season on a high note, beating Waterpolo Napoli Lions in the derby with a score of 11-10. Today’s three points allow coach Bruschini’s boys to take that extra step in the standings to eighth and third from last place, thanks to the simultaneous defeat of the Ortigia Academy at the home of the Circolo Nautico Salerno. The final position in the standings will allow Di Palma and his teammates to exploit the home factor in the safety playout. Game 1 will be staged on May 18th at Scandone, while Game 2 will be played seven days later, on May 25th, on an inverted pitch. We will return to Naples for the possible match 3 on June 1st.

The motivation in the water for the Gruppo Macchia was too strong compared to a Waterpolo Napoli Lions already certain of second place. However, the tension played tricks on the hosts who appeared tense and lackluster in both phases of the game, leaving the ball to their opponents. The Lions, although without Riccitiello, Occhiello, Scalone and Scotti Galletta, command the match, first reaching +3 and even +5 (3-8) at the start of the third set. However, the green-and-whites managed to react, coach Bruschini gave space to debutant Antonio Miraldi between the posts and the young goalkeeper was ready to attack the opponents’ shots, while up front he increased his precision and the concreteness that was missing in the first 16 minutes.

Magliulo with three goals, Fiorillo and D’Antonio signed the comeback, in the final Emanuele Miraldi scored the penalty to make it 8-9. In the last quarter, however, the inertia does not change and it is the former Silipo who scores the final goal 11-10.
