“The situation of the 98 workers of the former Green Island, recently forced into unemployment, has caused great concern. The inability of the administration led by Mayor Melucci to find an adequate solution was evident. Despite pressure from the opposition and the unions, the administration has neglected the problem, leading to worker unemployment without offering alternatives.” Francesco Cosa, Cosimo Festinante and Walter Musillo, municipal councilors of the Liberal Turn for Taranto, wrote this in a note.
“The disinterest in union requests and opposition proposals was evident, culminating in the unanimous approval of an agenda during a discussion in the city council – they add -. This situation is unacceptable and workers deserve an immediate and concrete response. The municipal administration is called to answer for its actions and to find an urgent solution to guarantee employment continuity. Active commitment and collaboration with all interested parties, including trade unions and opposition, is required.”
“The time is essential. It is crucial to put an end to this crisis and offer a stable employment prospect for the workers affected. Melucci’s administration is asked to take this dispute seriously and act promptly to resolve the situation. The lack of interest in these workers, fundamental for green development projects, is a contradiction for an administration that declares itself the “Taranto Ecosystem”.
