The search for the new Milan coach continues. After the break with Julen Lopetegui, who now seems intent on accepting West Ham’s court in the Premier League, the name that comes forward is that of Sergio Conceiçao but he is not the only candidate on the long list. There are also other names, such as those of Paulo Fonseca, Roberto Martinez, Mark van Bommel and Roberto De Zerbi.
Fabio Capelloto the microphones of the Gazzetta dello Sport, had his say on everyone: “If Milan is convinced about Conceiçao, they could be on the right path. He has what it takes but the important thing is that everyone in the club agrees. The Lopetegui case teaches us: the fact that a club like Milan gave in to the will of the fans suggests that perhaps there was not total unanimity on the choice. Otherwise it would be a serious rethink: if the decisions of the past had been made based on the mood of the fans fans, Milan would have had neither Sacchi nor Capello…”
On Fonseca: “The point in his favor is his knowledge of our championship. Fonseca already knows everything about Serie A and has been missing from Italy for a few years. In the two-year period with Roma he showed good things, proactive style of play, offensive mentality. With him there would be no need for revolutions, he is a coach who knows how to adapt to the players he has in his squad.”
On De Zerbi: “He is a prepared coach, who shows his ideas wherever he coaches, and has a very respectable sponsor like Guardiola. Up until now, however, no one has come forward despite his name being linked to the benches of the big clubs And then with Brighton he has a clause of 13 million, honestly it seems too much to free a manager.”
