Electoral comparison for the administrative elections of Caltanissetta: young people question the aspiring mayors – il Fatto Nisseno

The roles are reversed at least for once. The students will question the mayoral candidates. From an idea of two young high school students Matteo Lo Piano and Francesco Carletta was born the debate between mayoral candidates moderated by young people. Sunday 12 May at 6pm in the atrium of the Scarabelli Library. The aspirants for the mayor’s seat, Sergio Castiglione, Roberto Gambino, Angelo Failla, Annalisa Petitto, Ignazio Antonio Riggi, Walter Tesauro, accepted the invitation. It will be a way to make yourself known to the younger generations and tell them what their idea of the city is. We will not only talk about youth policies but about all the points of the electoral program seen through the eyes of young people. The problems and critical issues of a city that is not suitable for the younger generations. A city from which kids tend to run away after high school and return only for the holidays.

“In a present in which young people are constantly pointed out as the “passive” spectators of politics, a group of friends with a lot of free time decides to organize a debate with all the mayoral candidates, to make citizens more aware, – says Matteo Lo Piano one of the organizers – but, above all, to send a message: young people are not inert and will not allow others to decide for their future.” Voting as a conscious and reasoned choice and not a contingency, is the basic idea of the organizers. A lesson for adults.
