On Wednesday (8 May), as announced some time ago, the city will be the final stage of the fifth day of the Giro d’Italia on the Genoa – Lucca route.

The route on the municipal territory – The caravan will arrive from via di Camaiore (provincial road 1 Francigena) in Torre around 5.15 pm and will continue on the same road crossing the hamlets of Cappella and Monte San Quirico up to the bridge over the Serchio. From here Borgo Giannotti, via Augusto Passaglia, viale Matteo Civitali, viale Pompeo Batoni, piazza Martiri della Libertà, viale Carlo Del Prete, viale Lazzaro Papi, piazzale Luigi Boccherini and arrival in viale Giosuè Carducci, in front of Campo Balilla.

Prohibitions on the route – On the area of ​​the route up to Piazzale Boccherini the parking ban with removal will be extended from 8.30 am on Wednesday 8 May until the competition has completely passed while total closure to traffic is expected from 2pm until passage has taken place.

Prohibitions in service areas – In piazza del Collegio and piazza Santa Maria (historic centre), viale Luporini (from piazzale Boccherini to piazzale Italia excluding places reserved for the Misericordia), via Nieri, via Giuseppe Giusti, piazza Curtatone, via Mazzini, via Montegrappa, via Nazario Sauro, via Corte Pulia, via Fabio Filzi parking ban with removal from 8pm on Tuesday 7 May until 9pm on Wednesday 8 May.

Prohibitions in the arrival areas – The arrival area consists of viale Carducci including the car park of the same name, viale Cavour, piazzale Ricasoli, viale Regina Margherita, piazza Umberto I, viale della Repubblica, Porta San Pietro. In this area the parking ban with removal will start from 8pm on Tuesday (7 May) and will end at 11.59pm on Wednesday 8 May. The transit ban will be active from 5am until 11.59pm on Wednesday 8 May.

City gates and resident access – Wednesday 8 May Porta San Pietro it will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5am to 11.59pm. From 2pm to the end of the race the only gates to access the historic center will remain Porta San Iacopo and Porta Elisa with the possibility of using these accesses also for those with restricted entry routes to the ZTL.

Prohibitions in the areas surrounding the arrival area – During the day of May 8th, between 5am and 9pm, only the western lane of the Viale Europa overpass will remain open to traffic, therefore traffic will be permittedtraffic flow from Sant’Anna, piazzale Italia, via Nieri, viale Europa only in a southerly direction. To do the opposite route it will be necessary to use the San Donato variant and the Viale Città Gemelle overpass. Heavy traffic coming from the south and heading towards Valle di Serchio will be diverted to the Capannori motorway toll booth. In viale Giusti and its side streets the transit ban will last from 5am to 9pm on Wednesday 8 May with the following exceptions: in viale Giusti (between via dei Macelli and via Mazzini), via Nazario Sauro and via per Corte Pulia, traffic will be allowed entry and exit from private areas and the station car park until 11am on Wednesday 8 May. In viale Giusti (between via dei Macelli and via Filzi) and in via Filzi, authorized persons will always be allowed entry to reach private areas.

Schools and market – In agreement with all the competent authorities, teaching management and school directors, an order to close schools of all levels throughout the municipality is expected for Wednesday 8 May. The usual Wednesday market in Piazzale Don Baroni will not take place on the same day.
