CORIGLIANO-ROSSANO – «With the extraordinary heritage inherited and preserved both in its two historic centers as well as on the coast and in its extensive mountains, the City of Art of Corigliano-Rossano can in all respects be considered as a large and competitive set all ‘open, naturally applying itself to be a privileged location and regional reference for film productions.

This is what the commissioner of the Calabria Film Commission Foundation reiterated, Anton Giulio Grande, who this morning (Saturday 4 May) was accompanied on a cultural scouting and territorial marketing visit by the candidate for Mayor Pasqualina Straface.

«From the Ducal Castle, one of the most beautiful and best preserved existing castles in southern Italy to the Canal Bridge, – read the note – to the historic Roman-type aqueduct, built five centuries ago and linked to our San Francesco di Paola, up to the alleys and to the main churches and architectural emergencies of the historic center of Corigliano. From the Byzantine oratory of San Marco, recently included thanks to the commitment of the Calabria Region in the proposed list of sites nominated by Italy to become a UNESCO heritage site, to the Cathedral of the Achiropita to the Panaghia up to the Codex Purpureus which is unique in the world, kept in historic center of Rossano, former capital of the Byzantine South and with its over 100 noble palaces”.

«Corigliano-Rossano – said Pasqualina Straface – is not only a great City of Art and perhaps the only one with three historic centres, one of which is seaside in Schiavonea and the Torre S.Angelo di Rossano with the remains of the Torre S.Angelo with the remains of the Fondaco, one of the most important customs centers and hubs of the Calabrian and southern maritime economy of past centuries. This land of ours – he said – today also represents the historical and geographical area that inherits the greatest number of those Distinctive Identity Markers of Extraordinary Calabria, that Calabria which, as President Roberto Occhiuto often reminds us, Italy and the world they don’t expect it yet. Herodotus of Turi himself, considered by Cicero to be the father of History and one of the MIDs, would be buried under our City whose archaeological heritage yet to be brought to light – he underlined – could even cause books and perspectives to be rewritten”.

«And precisely on the rewriting of the narrative never done before of this extraordinary identity heritage and on the great universal history that this land today can reveal and tell to visitors from all over the world and of all seasons – added the candidate for Mayor – together with the Foundation Calabria Film Commission, we will plan and create docufilms and short films, making Corigliano-Rossano one of the most important regional film production locations and one of the most attractive film-tourism destinations.”

«And it is exactly with this vision and in this spirit – the note concludes – that Pasqualina Straface wanted to conclude the special tour of the commissioner of the Calabria Film Commission, crossing the important and fascinating mountain and woodland heritage that overlooks the ancient Sybaris and embraces the two historic centers connecting them to Sila, to the extraordinary and fascinating Patire Monastery, also an important identity marker of Calabria, another unique piece, because from the 12th to the 15th century it was one of the most important monasteries of the ‘Southern Italy, the richest scriptorum of the Norman south’.
