Progetto Perugia, “strengthened by its being a moderate, Christian-liberal democratic civic movement with an abundant “pinch” of social issues, with strong ideals that match those of the European People’s Party, intends to contribute to the pro-European project of De Gasperi’s memory, in view of the appointment European and Perugian elections of 8-9 June”.

Progetto Perugia “brings with it its civic experience gained in ten years of city government, putting it at the service of Europe”, officially joining the EPP “in qualitative and quantitative terms of ideas and projects” recalling that “in the previous municipal elections (2019) it was the most voted civic movement, obtaining the trust of 15% of Perugia voters”.

The occasion for this official membership was the act of signing, on 29 April, in Rome, at the De Gasperi Foundation, the “Manifesto of EPP values” shared by around twenty civic movements present in most of the Italian regions . Event dedicated to the theme “The alliance of moderate civic forces for the future of the EPP”, promoted by the coordinators of this “Manifesto”, the vice president of the EPP and president of Forza Italia, Antonio Tajani, as well as vice president of the Council and minister of Foreign Affairs, and Alberto Cirio, president of the Piedmont Region.

It was its founder who signed Progetto Perugia. Filippo Calabrese, a committed Catholic and convinced pro-European, who, in speaking at the Roman meeting, said: “I believe it is important to find a point of union, which is the EPP, recognizing ourselves in this document. The values are reiterated, the hopes of the future: opening up to civic realities so that the role of politics becomes of interest to citizens again. President Tajani’s openness to the role of moderates without party membership, who recognize themselves in pro-European and Atlanticist values, of a stronger Europe. , which changes and adapts to changed times, stimulates us even in the “small” of our territories with different potentials with credible civic movements and lists in carrying out concrete projects for the common good, can play an important role in the work. essential for bringing together voters who feel distrust and apathy towards politics. A worrying phenomenon to which not even our Perugia is immune.” In the signed “Manifesto”, Calabrese highlights, “respect for the histories, specific identities and political-organizational autonomy of each subject is put in black and white” and “the union of forces that refer to the values of the EPP represents a political perspective which finds in the European elections the ideal context to be realized immediately. From here we can start to build a more long-term perspective capable of consolidating that moderate centre, alternative to the left and distinct but allied with the democratic right, which it is a factor of balance, responsibility, modernity and growth in our country as in Europe”.
