Avis Lombardia, members and donations are growing

Brescia. The number of participants is confirmed to be extremely positive new members of Avis Regionale Lombardia, which even grow by +10.39% compared to 2022 (23,827 in 2023 against 21,584 in 2022), against a stable but encouraging trend in the number of donations (463,822, divided into 382,546 bags of whole blood, 76,237 of apheresis and 5,039 of other donations).
These are the main ones data emerged from the 53rd annual meeting of Avis Lombardy Regional, held on Saturday 4 May at the Avis Provinciale Brescia headquarters in the presence of numerous authorities and leading figures of the association.

In addition to these first numbers, the 2023 Social Report, presented by president of Avis Regionale Lombardia Oscar Bianchialso showed an increase in the number of total donors which, to date, amount to 261,811. Thanks to the numerous initiatives and projects implemented over the last year, the association’s objective is to continue to involve more and more volunteers of all age groups but, above all, young people. «It is essential to diversify our membership base and therefore our donors – explained President Bianchi. – Looking at the present and the socio-demographic trend of our territory, we must, to an ever greater extent, actively involve young people in associative life and adopt new forms of communication to reach a wider audience also among people of foreign origin, raising their awareness of a a topic that also involves them.” After the considerable increase in 2022, in fact, the total number of donors from non-European countries remained above 7,000.

The annual meeting was also an opportunity to illustrate the projects that were started in 2023 and are taking shape: from technological initiatives such as telemedicine/televisit, to the growing proactive presence of Avis Regionale Lombardia in institutions and strategic tables. All this without ever forgetting the projects dedicated to younger people, who have always represented one of the association’s main interlocutors: GenerAzioni, “Avisini che spectacle” and the Interregional Higher Education School, among others.

«The time has come – concluded Bianchi – to broaden our impact not only in the healthcare sector, but also in research and prevention, responding to the emerging needs of society. In a period of widespread economic difficulty, our role in the provision of services becomes even more crucial, because, by offering responses to the important role of prevention, independent of financial conditions, we position ourselves as a bulwark of solidarity in difficult times. In moments of social crisis, the third sector becomes a fundamental resource for supporting fragility and relaunching recovery.”
