«Now in terms of workplace safety we have well exceeded the safety limit». This was stated by the general secretary of the CGIL Naples and Campania, Nicola Ricci, after the latest accidents that cost the lives of two construction workers in Lettere and Casalnuovo. «The data – Ricci specifies to Ansa – are merciless: over 350 throughout the country and 12 in Campania in this first part of 2024 are the workers who died while they were engaged in their activities».
And he adds: «The two deaths confirm the inadequacy of the regulations in force and the need to stop an absurd system of cascade procurement which removes responsibility from individual companies and haywires the work of the inspectors involved in identifying the culprits of this massacre» .
«We repeat it loudly, this slaughter must be stopped. In our daily initiative – concludes Ricci – the theme of safety will remain in the foreground. We talked about it in our demonstration for May Day, in the coming weeks it will be one of the issues at the center of the collection of signatures promoted by the CGIL for the referendums, one of which aims precisely at the repeal of the rules that prevent, in the event of an accident at work in procurement, to extend the responsibility to the contracting company”.
