A “Biblio Borgoteca” in the name of Antonio Pennacchi for the social center of Borgo Podgora and Borgo Carso, named after Don Giovanni Lerose.
The ribbon cutting took place late yesterday afternoon, in the presence of the mayor of Latina Matilde Celentano and the city councilors Damiano Coletta, Floriana Coletta, Dario Bellini, Vincenzo Valletta and Nicola Catani. The event, organized by the members and the management of the social centre, chaired by Vittorio Nardin, turned into a beautiful party attended by numerous citizens. Present, among the various guests, were the parish priest Don Livio and Mrs. Ivana, widow of the Pontine writer, winner of the Strega Prize with the novel “Canale Mussolini”, who passed away in 2021, after whom the library was named.
“This is a project that starts from afar – explained Mayor Celentano on the sidelines of the event – created with a series of donations, collected over the last five years, which have allowed the community center to furnish the premises, at the first floor of the municipal headquarters of Borgo Podgora, and to equip them with the books that will thus become part of the collection of the new library. The ‘Biblio Borgoteca’ named after Pennacchi is a structure open to everyone, children, teenagers, young and old, and otherwise elderly. An inclusive reality that will be fully experienced by the inhabitants of the area and of the nearby Borgo Carso. A cultural garrison, in favor of socialization and exchange between generations”.
Mayor Celentano donated some texts on the Pontine territory to the social center, with the promise of further donations in the near future.
“I thank the social centre, President Nardin, and all those who in recent years, thanks to the energy of a particularly active elderly population, have made the realization of the project possible for the community. A wonderful initiative, to be taken as an example in other circumstances”, concluded the first citizen.
