SANTA LUCIA DI PIAVE (TREVISO) – There is a doctor from Treviso between best minds in global healthcare. AND’ Paolo De Coppi, pediatric surgeon and researcher, emigrated to London. The Time he inserted it into the top 100 of the most influential personalities in the world in the health sector, in the “innovators” category.

Here he deals with «malformations congenital, finding ways to provide the fetus the right cells to grow missing tissues or organs” explains Time in its presentation. «To do this, in 2024, he and his team, led by Mattia Gerli, have pioneered ways to take cells from amniotic fluid and growing organoids, which are replicas of specific tissue types, that mimic the fetus’s lung, intestinal and kidney cells. It is the first time that such organoids for tissues like these have been created from amniotic fluid. De Coppi and his team are testing the approach first on sheep and hope to eventually conduct studies on humans.”

The brilliant doctor from Treviso has already hit the headlines several times for pioneering interventionslike the 18 hour operation for separate two conjoined twinsperformed in London in 2022.
