Moments of great fear yesterday, Friday 3 May, at the San Lorenzo nursery school in the populous Arcella district of Padua, which since the beginning of the year has also hosted children from both the nursery and the “Il Trenino” nursery school. According to an initial reconstruction of the facts, a shrub collapsed in the kindergarten garden, with a little girl who was grazed but who was saved thanks to the intervention of a teacher. A miraculous intervention in fact. Without the teacher’s intuition, as reported by the Corriere del Veneto, the news of the story would most likely have taken on much more tragic connotations.

The tragedy occurred around 11: Thursday’s heavy rains soaked the ground, and the tree slowly fell to the ground. A child noticed what was happening and got away in time, while a little girl was caught at the last moment by an attentive teacher, with a branch that grazed her little girl’s face but did not injure her. Antonio Bressa, Green Councilor of the municipality of Padua, commented on the event as follows: «This sort of large bush collapsed due to the conditions of the underlying ground which, due to the heavy rains of recent days, has lost stability and has essentially reversed on itself. A little girl was grazed, but fortunately no one was injured: in light of what happened it is useful to go back to raising awareness not only among school workers but among all citizens, because after a wave of bad weather like Thursday’s it is always necessary to have maximum caution. We had partially pruned that shrub just in recent weeks, which has now been removed by municipal technicians.”
