In the week of the very delicate survival challenge against Lecce, Claudio Ranieri celebrates a very special anniversary: 8 years ago his Leicester won their first historic Premier League titledenying every prediction of the day before, at the end of a triumphal ride that had echoes throughout the world.
At the beginning of May 2016, thanks to the 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Tottenham, Sir Claudio’s Foxes obtained the arithmetic certainty of first place in the standings. But at the end of the championship they will be 11 points behind Spurs and 10 points behind Arsenal, who finished second.
A real feat that consecrated Ranieri’s legend on an international level.
After the end of the glorious adventure in England, it was 2022, the Roman coach confided during the Trento Sports Festival: «Leicester gave me much of the world-wide fame I have now, but my dream as a manager remains Cagliari».
And the dream – already fulfilled between 1988 and 1991 – came true again in 2023. With Sir Claudio who is today called to a new undertaking of his own: lead the rossoblù to obtain the long-awaited salvation.
