The May of Books returns to Corigliano-Rossano

CORIGLIANO-ROSSANO – Reading unites, it makes us grow, traveling while sitting down, dreaming, reflecting, reading helps us acquire awareness, confidence, critical ability and respect for others, it opens the mind. For these reasons the municipality of Corigliano-Rossano, for the second year, has decided to participate in the May of Booksthe Cepell – Center for Books and Reading campaign, now in its 14th edition.

The May of Books is a national campaign that invites us to bring books and reading to contexts other than traditional ones, as this administration has been doing for some time, to also reach those who do not usually read but who may be intrigued if stimulated, interested in right way.

The initiative will involve schools, libraries, bookshops, cultural associations and the most diverse public and private entities in a widespread manner. The Municipal Administration, at the instigation of the Department of Culture, intends to be a spur in the task of making books and reading a social habit and consequently broadening the base of readers in our territory. The May of Books was born in 2011 with the aim of underlining the social value of books as a key element of personal, cultural and civil growth.

If you read, you’ll be free! is the theme chosen this year. It is a true hymn to freedom, the fullest one, which only reading can give, which can be accessed by organizing face-to-face and digital initiatives to be carried out between 23 April – UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day – and 31 May, freely inspired or taking inspiration from the three suggested thematic threads: Lib(e)ri di Scienze, dedicated to the world of information, non-fiction and historical fiction; Lib(e)ri to dream, where we find great narrative, especially fantasy, and the most compelling biographies; Free to create, to give voice to poetry and all its imaginative potential. Three different ways of approaching reading which lead to as many bibliographies, soon available and full of suggestions, each divided by gender and age group.

Twelve traveling events are scheduled in Corigliano-Rossano, starting from 6th to 31st May. There were many guests and various topics covered.

The event will open on May 6th with a meeting, at 9am, with the very young writer Caterina Signorini and her book entitled “IL RING”, with the participation of the students of the “Colosimo” Classical High School at the Women’s Laboratory (organized by the Laboratorio of Women – Mondiversi Association in collaboration with the “Colosimo” classical high school). In the afternoon, at 6.30 pm, Pasquale Tridico will present “Governing the economy so as not to be governed by the markets” in the small square adjacent to the Mondadori bookshop – Viale Michelangelo (curated by the Mondadori Bookstore of Corigliano-Rossano)

On Tuesday 7th, at 6pm, there will be an information meeting on “Libraries in the city” in which the new city library system, the renovation project of the Pometti library and the MLOL digital library will be presented in the premises of the Pometti Library.
